Lecturer Parimal Trivedi seems to be suffering from the hangover of his vice-chancellorship days. Having served as Gujarat University’s VC for seven years, Trivedi perhaps finds it difficult to fit into his new role minus the privileges he enjoyed earlier.
According to sources, the former VC who joined M G Science Institute as Physics lecturer four months ago, recently threw a fit when he was unable to access internet at the college.

‘HASN’T TAKEN A SINGLE LECTURE’
“He created a scene and even humiliated the department head. He ordered HoD U V Shah to get him a cabin, an intercom facility and internet connection and went on to say that the college was not anybody’s family property. He also threatened to take authorities to task if he was denied these facilities,” said a source who witnessed the incident.
As per rules, only the HoD is entitled to the facilities Trivedi has been demanding for himself. “Why does he need these facilities? He has not taken a single lecture since the day he joined. He simply signs the muster, spends time in the staff room and leaves. The other teachers are quite annoyed with his high-handed approach. Nobody tells him anything,” says a staff member.

‘RULES WILL HAVE TO BE FOLLOWED’
HoD U V Shah refused to comment on the incident. He said, “I only want to say that rules and regulations have to be followed by everyone.” MG Principal B K Jain confirmed that the “unfortunate incident” had taken place last week but was clearly in no mood to forward a complaint to Ahmedabad Education Society (AES) that runs the college.
“Yes, it is true that Trivedi created a ruckus at the college. I have asked the HoD to give me Trivedi’sdemands in writing so that they can be forwarded to AES.” Asked how he could favour Trivedi instead of warning him, Jain refused to comment. BM Shah, registrar of AES, said, “We are aware of the incident. However, since I have not received a written complaint against him, I cannot take any action.”

‘HE’LL PROBABLY LEARN TO BEHAVE’
He further added, “Trivedi is probably not able to adjust to his new role. In a few days, Shashiranjan Yadav, former Kutch University vice chancellor, will join us as lecturer. Maybe Trivedi will take a cue from him on how to conduct oneself and behave appropriately.” When contacted, Trivedi said no such incident had taken place. “I haven’t spoken to the HoD about any such thing. These are rumours.”

‘HE HASN’T RETURNED GU’S CELLPHONES, LAPTOP’
The former VC has also been rubbing GU authorities the wrong way, sources said. He has yet not returned gadgets worth Rs 1.5 lakh the varsity had provided him though his term ended in June.
“He was given a laptop, two cellphones and an iPhone by the varsity. He should have deposited them with the varsity before leaving office. But despite several reminders, he has not returned them. So GU had to buy a new iPhone worth Rs 40,000 for the new VC,” the source said.
GU’s incharge registrar Arvind Bhandari said: “He hasn’t yet returned the varsity’s laptop and three high-end mobile phones. We called him several times, but to no avail. I believe he will return them soon.”
Trivedi, however, says he has returned everything the GU had provided him. “I have returned everything I got from GU. I even have areceipt of the same,” he said. GU Vice Chancellor Aadesh Pal said, “We are trying our best to resolve the issue in an amicable manner. If Trivedi does not hand over GU’s property, a notice will be issued against him.”
