New system to increase capacity of goods trains

The locotrol system will save railways time and ensure speedy delivery of goods Yogesh Avasthi Posted On Saturday, April 16, 2011 ( http://www.ahmedabadmirror.com/article/3/2011041620110416022108848a831938c/New-system-to-increase--capacity-of-goods-trains.html ) To further boost their freight business by delivering maximum goods in minimum time, the railways has come up with a brand new idea. In July, the Ahmedabad Railway Division (ARD) will introduce a locotrol system that will involve three locomotives running a fully-loaded goods train. The train, with a capacity to carry 1 lakh tonne of goods, will thus be able to carry more number of wagons as the pulling power will be distributed throughout the length of the train. The locotrol system will also allow the train to disjoin enroute — this means one train could be made into three or four trains. For example, instead of three trains carrying goods from Ahmedabad station to Mumbai, Kochi and Kolkata stations, the ARD will now

Benefits like no labour unions, good power supply and quality lifestyle prove the catalyst that makes industrialists set up their units in Gujarat. However, along with industrialisation comes the problems of pollution and high energy consumption. Recently, Central Pollution Control Board visited Vatva GIDC, one of the largest chemical clusters in India. They found that majority of the industries were not using fuel efficiently, resulting in pollution and high consumption of energy.
