Ahmedabad University (AU) will be opening a school for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) by the end of July 2012. The school will offer programmes in the engineering, management and design fields.
It will offer five-year dual degree masters (M Tech) and two years of masters programme (M Tech) as well as Ph D programme.
By combining technical and industrial sectors, specialisation will be offered at graduate level in networking and security, human computer interaction, data analytic and visualisation, mobile and cloud computing, bioinformatics and so on.
Special research labs will be established, which will give students and faculty the opportunity to be at par with the latest technology curriculum.
The school seeks to redefine ICT education by introducing latest programmes in the curriculum both for undergraduate and graduate batches such as inter-disciplinary programmes, problem solving and systemic thinking, smart specialisations and high quality industry research labs.
Dr Ashis Jalote Parmar, Project Coordinator for School of Information and Communication Technology, Ahmedabad University, said, “We aim to build high quality research-driven multi-disciplinary platform for faculty and students to explore the real world problems and innovate solutions that have societal and industrial impact.
“Right from the first year, students will have the opportunity to be on the field and get the required exposure of the industry. That way, they will learn to balance between social responsibilities and their academic career.”
He further added, “Also, whatever research work students begin in the first year, the same will be carried forward in the next semester.”
Usually colleges in the state, have not achieved much in terms of scientific writing. Parmar said, “In this programme, students doing research will get to pen down their works and also get the opportunity to publish it. This will give them global exposure. It will be our constant practice to add latest concepts every year.”
