Only 17 candidates appeared in Ahmedabad and Sanand for apprentice jobs at the Nano plant. There are over 3,000 vacancies By Yogesh Avasthi Posted On Wednesday, June 09, 2010 Students in the city have said no-no to the Nano experience. Only nine students from Ahmedabad appeared for a test held to fill up 3,000 trainee posts at Tata Motors’ Sanand plant. HSC passouts in other cities, too, did not show much interest. Ten students in Gandhinagar and eight in Sanand took the test conducted on Tuesday. The 60-mark written tests were scheduled to be held from June 6 to 24. Expecting more than 500 students every day, the District Education Office (DEO) ordered several city schools to keep their classrooms free to conduct the tests. But Tuesday’s attendance proved a shocker. Only two students took the test at Muktjeevan High School in Maninagar. Vidyanagar High School in Usmanpura saw seven students. Eight students appeared for the test at New Era School in Sanand. The poor turnout forced

Skilled Muslim artisans from Makrana in Rajasthan are working day and night to construct marble facades and colonnades. The renovation work will be completed by December By Mehul Jani & Yogesh Avasthi Posted On Saturday, June 05, 2010  (Pic Dilip Thaker) No religion has a right on God. It’s God who decides what’s right. That should explain the presence of Muslim craftsmen at Bhadrakali temple, one of the most popular places of worship in the city. Bhadrakali or Amba is also addressed as Allah in Sanskrit. The skilled artisans from Makrana are constructing marble facades and colonnades at the temple, all set for a Rs 2.5-crore facelift in December. While at work, they adhere to the Hindu doctrine promulgated at the temple. That, they say, is out of respect for the Hindu sentiments. So, till the work gets over, they will not even touch meat. The craftsmen are employees of A S Marble Emporium in Makrana. Nearly 90 per cent of the artisans in this small town in Rajasthan are Musl

B D Arts College changes address

Situated in a narrow, congested lane and the area being unfriendly for girls forces management to shift college to C U Shah Arts College campus By Yogesh Avasthi Posted On Saturday, June 05, 2010 The only post graduate home science college in the city, which was lost in the narrow lanes of Sankdi Sheri, will finally have a new address. Also the first women’s college, B D Arts College, which has been running since 1956, will now be housed at the C U Shah Arts College campus in Lal Darwaja. The authorities cite two reasons for this shift after almost 54 years. One of the reasons being the area where the college is in a narrow, congested lane. Buses don’t ply here, hence college students, all girls, find it difficult to walk down all the way from Lal Darwaja. The other reason is the fact that the location of the college is not so woman- friendly, which raises concern for the girls. Both these factors have contributed to the decline in the number of girls coming to the college. For
