Water woes on superfast Duronto Express is to end soon as the Indian Railway Board has decided to supply drinking water to the passengers on board the train. While the superfast train’s eight-hour non-stop jaunt has made it popular among the passengers, unavailability of water and absence of pantry car are something passengers have been complaining about since its launch in December last year. However, the board is set to provide drinking water on the train from the second week of June.

No drinking water facility
There is no potable water facility on Duronto. Also, because the train has no stoppage, there is no chance that a passenger can buy it from any station. “There is no pantry car in the train. That’s okay. But there should be some provision for drinking water on board. The train does not halt at any station and it will be a dire situation if one forgets to bring water,” said a frequent Duronto traveller.
Sources said the complaints had also caught the attention of railway minister. “The IRCTC will either install water dispensers or provide water bottles to the passengers. The decision will be taken soon and it will be implemented from the second week of June,” said a source in the board.
Free medical assistance Currently, passengers are offered free medical assistance by a doctor and a paramedical team on board the super fast train.
To help passengers in case of any medical emergency, the railway board has introduced the free medical service in all Duronto Expresses under a one-year pilot project. Each Duronto Express has a General Duty Medical Officer (GMDO) and a paramedical staff. In case of any medical requirement, a passenger has to alert ticket collector, who in turn inform the doctor. Based on the doctor’s advice, the ticket collector halts the train at the nearest station.
Train No 2268 Ahmedabad-Mumbai super fast Duronto Express leaves Ahmedabad on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. Train No 2267 leaves Mumbai on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11.15 pm. The train has three first AC , three second AC, four third AC coaches, and five economy third AC coaches besides two van coaches.
