A student of St Xavier’s Loyola high school attempted to slap the vice-principal following an argument, and was promptly shown the door on Wednesday. The boy’s parents were called to the school a day later on Thursday and told he was being suspended for 10 days.Class IX student Joel George was suspended after he tried to slap Fr Raj on being rebuked for disobedience.
The incident occurred after school hours around 1.45 pm when some senior students stayed back on the campus to play. Fr Raj asked the noisy bunch to leave for home since school was long over. Most of the six-seven boys playing there left, but George held his ground and argued with the vice-principal. “The boy refused to budge when I asked him to go home. After a while, he turned aggressive and tried to hit me in the face but couldn’t as I held his hand. I then asked him to immediately leave the school premises,” said Fr Raj.
Sources said matters turned ugly after Fr Raj scolded George, and allegedly even beat him. However, Fr Raj denied having hit the boy. Talking to AM, he said, “I did not beat the boy.”When contacted, George’s parents denied that any such incident had happened. His mother said, “Neither did George beat Fr Raj nor did he get beaten. We have no complaints against Fr Raj.”
Asked why he was suspended if that was so, she hung up the phone. Joel George reportedly excels in sports in the school. On his part, St Xavier’s Loyola principal Fr Fernand Durai said, “I am out of town since the last 10 days. However, I have not heard of such an incident.” Fr Raj is holding charge in absence of Fr Durai.
