Ganesh Chaturthi and light showers made for the perfect inaugural run of Ahmedabad- Mumbai Double-decker AC train on Wednesday afternoon when Minister of State for Railways Bharat Solanki flagged it off. But the eagerly awaited superfast train on its maiden trip not only failed to generate overwhelming response but also flunked the on-board facilities test miserably.
No food or water was available on board which left several passengers in a fix. Senior citizens Nishikant Purani and Rekha Purani said: “We didn’t bring food with us expecting a pantry car. But much to our dismay, even water is not available here. We tried to look for it but none gave us any satisfactory reply. We also faced problems in booking, too.” But the most common complaint of passengers was the less spacious and uncomfortable chairs.
“Since it is a new train, I tried this. The seats are too congested. Even a person with average built will face problem. The facilities offered are fewer compared to Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express,” said Pawan Agrawal. The railway officials, who had expected a rush for the maiden trip, were a little disappointed as only 310 passengers boarded the Mumbai Central-bound train which has the capacity of 1,120 travelers.

Another traveller Neeraj Shastri said: “There’s no push-backs so one cannot adjust seats according to one’s own comfort. The train is good but not like Karnavati and Shatabhi.” Harsh Engineer, who was travelling to Mumbai, said: “The train was delayed by two years. It would not have made much difference if it was delayed by two or three days more. At least proper arrangement should have been made.”
