Gujarat Technological University (GTU) has discontinued its contract with Nilpa Software Systems Private Limited, the agency which is facing a CID probe following its alleged involvement in “cash for marks scam” in Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB).
GTU Vice Chancellor Akshai Aggarawl said that in the wake of controversy involving the agency, it has been decided not to give any more work to it. The agency has been involved in preparing the marksheets.
“The agency no longer will be preparing the marksheets of the university. To rule out the possibility of any tampering with the marksheets, we have randomly picked up about 20 per cent answersheets and are comparing them with the marks assigned in the marksheets,” he said. He further added that a team of experts is examining the issue and will submit a detailed report within next two days.
Meanwhile when Mirror contacted Praveen Shah, owner of the agency, he declined to elaborate on the issue. “Entire matter is confidential and it is being probed by the CID crime. I have nothing to add to it,” he said.
Sources meanwhile pointed out that a few centre recruitment boards and some other institutes too were considering snapping ties with the agency. Already GSHSEB officials who conducted an inquiry into the ‘marks- for-cash’ scam involving Nilpa, have lodged a complaint with the CID.
The probe committee had earlier called Shah, who reportedly had admitted to the changes having been made in the marksheets. Soon after finding out that the marksheets were tampered with, the board had made corrections and issued fresh marksheets in the first week of June.
Officials said fresh marksheets of students were sent to the admission committees of medical and engineering colleges, which prepared the merit list on the basis of corrected marksheet.
