On International Women’s Day, two students of Institute of Law at Nirma University gave female power a boost by bagging the highest pay packages offered to any law student in the state. While one of them was offered a package of Rs 34 lakh per annum by an international firm, the other received Rs 17.5-lakh offer by an Indian company. This is the highest salary offered to any non-IIM student from the city in recent years.
The student who got the highest package refused to be named. “The Corporate Law student received an offer from Pennigton Solicitors, a UK-based law firm. The offer is subject to the condition that she would get admission to Cambridge. This is not a tough task for her as the student has already cleared three rounds of admission process,” said academic co-ordinator Rhishikesh Dave, adding, “Both students belong to the first batch of law students.”
Kirti Soni, a Criminal Law student, received the second highest package on being hired by Reliance Energy Resources Limited as a legal advisor. The 23-year-old, who lives in Maninagar, said, “I have been rewarded for my hardwork over the past 4 years. The firm called me to Mumbai for a meeting. I was interviewed four times by four different panels. I could not figure out if I was going wrong somewhere, but I was confident of my talent. In the interview, they asked me about the 2G scam and other corporate frauds.”
Kirti, who studied at Divine Bird school in Maninagar and interned with former attorney general of India Soli Sorabjee, adds, “At one stage, they asked what salary I wanted and what was the highest offered at Nirma. I told them that my batchmate Shivranjani Ralawata had been offered Rs 11.5 lakh. They called me the next day and offered Rs 17.5 lakh! I was dumbstruck. I know the exact second they gave me the offer.”
Dave said, “Of our 73 students in the first batch, 47 have opted for corporate and law firm placements, the rest will join litigation in courts. Pre-placement offers were made by leading law firms such as Economic Laws Practice, Mumbai and Platinum Partners, Mumbai. Interviews were also conducted by GIDC, Bajaj Allianz, Wadia Ghandy & Co, and HDFC, Ahmedabad. Future Generali and Singhania & Co. are expected to visit our campus for recruitment this month.”
