University will upload answers to next month’s first semester BCom exam papers. Other undergraduate courses to be covered from second semester

Gujarat University, which will conduct semester exams for undergraduate courses for the first time next month, plans to upload the answer key on its website to benefit students.
To begin with, it will only upload answer keys to first semester BCom papers. Second semester onwards, science, arts and other disciplines will be covered.
As many as 32,000 students are expected to appear for the first semester BCom exam to begin on November 30.
As per plan, the answer key will be uploaded three hours after the daily exam and will stay on the website for two days.
Usually, answer keys are uploaded for multiple-choice questions asked in competitive exams. But GU plans to upload even solutions to theory questions so that students know the content and the length of the answers expected from them.
The key will also give students a fair idea of how much they stand to score if they have attempted a part of the question. This will help the student carry out self-assessment and prepare better for the next day’s paper. It will also help the teachers assessing the paper as they will know how many marks should a student be given for his answer.
It will also mean that paper-setters will have to carefully plan the questions as they will also be required to provide detailed answers to be uploaded on the website. “Many a time students think that a particular question asked in the paper is out of syllabus. So, the key will also have a link to the reference material which holds the answer,” said an academician.
GU Vice Chancellor Parimal Trivedi said, “We are conducting semester exams for undergraduate courses for the first time. In the first phase, we shall upload answer key for BCom papers and cover other disciplines from the next semester. We believe the answer key will boost students’ confidence by helping them assess themselves.”
He added, “We will also give them solutions for theory questions. This will make it easy for them to find out how many marks they are likely to score. Students of the next batch stand to benefit the most as they will have a clear understanding of how to and how much to write in the theory papers.”
