Ahmedabad Railway Division on Tuesday filed FIRs against six people for their alleged involvement in a fraud which took place on May 25. The railway division received a call on May 25 from a person who demanded confirmed VIP tickets for Sirohi (Rajasthan) MLA Vinod Jain and his family on Jodhpur-Bangalore Express.
The senior divisional railway manager’s personal secretary, who answered this call, noticed the incoming mobile number was a local one. He confirmed only one of the three tickets and briefed senior ticket teller Radhakrishna Rajpurohit of the situation.
Rajpurohit inquired with the passenger, Vinod Jain, how he had received a ticket that was reserved for MLAs. Vinod promptly responded that the ticket was given to him by Ketan Jain. He added that he was neither an MLA, nor did he know any. Following this statement, Government Railway Police (Ahmedabad) initiated an inquiry into the matter.
Police inspector G N Zala said, “When Ketan Jain was approached, he claimed he purchased the ticket from Ramdev Tours and Travels in Madhavpura. The bogus call made to the railway division was traced to Bankim Modi in Raipur. He has earlier made similar calls from Surat, Ajmer, Vadodara and Rajkot.”
Modi is known to have telephoned a senior officer and addressed him in an authoritative manner. Following the verification of his number, six FIRs were filed — one each against Bankim Modi, Vinod Jain, Ketan Jain, owner of Ramdev Tours and Travels Govardhan Prajapati, his son Kalpesh and daughter Suman. The e-ticket was issued using Suman Prajapati’s log-in, sources said. Modi is suspected to be involved in several similar cases.
