Money is not the only matter for at least these three IIMites who quit their top corporate jobs in just five months to train country’s nextgen for industry challenges. To bridge the gap between academia and the industry, Rahul Harkisanka, Ravi Subramanium and Rohan Choudhary, who grabbed the jobs on Day 0 of IIM placement, have started Edvantage India, their entrepreneurial venture which is first of its kind of initiative for college-goers in Ahmedabad.
Industry-focused course for students
Though the three do not belong to Ahmedabad, they preferred the city to start their company. “Ahmedabad is going to be a financial hub with GIFT city generating thousands of employment. We aim at preparing graduates to face the challenges of corporate world,” said Rohan.
“We will be offering short-term industry-focused courses to impart knowledge and experience to students. It will help them meet the requirements of the corporate which always need skilled workforce,” Ravi said. The course will have several modules like Professional Communication and Presentation, Personal Effectiveness, Selling Skills and Financial Services. “These modules will cover all topics that a fresher encounters in the beginning of the job,” said Ravi.

Collaboration with Gujarat university
The three IIMites plan to collaborate with colleges affiliated to Gujarat University to train their students. “We will use case studies and multi media to make the coaching interactive. By the end of the crash course, students will be offered internships and scholarships. “We have designed the course which will be affordable to all. According to a National Skill Development Corporation report on human resource and skill requirement, banking and financial services and insurance sector is expected to create an incremental demand of about 4.2 million skilled people between 2008 and 2022. So ours is an attempt to help students prepare for these jobs,” said Rohan.
“For example, ICICI Bank plans to hire 4000 people by March 2011. Similarly, StanChart is looking for 2,500 freshers. HDFC Bank is set to recruit more than 4,000 people, and Yes Bank is to raise its headcount by about 3,600,” he added.

The founders’ brief industrial stint
Rahul Harkisanka, an IIT Bombay graduate, has worked with Procter & Gamble for two years. His friend and co-founder of Edvantage India, Ravi Subramanium is also a techie from IIT Bombay. He co-authored a popular paper on FDI outflows.
A gold medalist from IIMA, Rohan Choudhary is a computer science graduate from IIT Delhi. Rohan’s research papers have been published in leading international forums. Apart from brief stint with investment banking at JP Morgan, New York, Rohan has worked with Monitor Group, a leading strategy consulting firm, on projects in the consumer goods and rural marketing sectors.
