Have you ever missed a train because you were unable to read the name board or got into a wrong one because railway authorities forgot to change the name plate? Ahmedabad Railways Division has decided to remedy this problem of the commuters. It is soon going to replace the iron display boards on train with digital ones.
This will not only ease the commuters trouble but will also relieve railway employees of the hassel of changing the board according to their respective destinations.
Generally in ‘A’ grade trains the coaches remains the same therefore the driver and the ground staff do not have to change the iron boards of the train. But on other trains at times the coaches have to be changed. When such a change is made, the name board also needs to be changed. But sometimes the boards remain unchanged leading to confusion among the commuters.
With the new digital name boards, it will take less than a minute to change the names of the train and the coach numbers. The station incharge will change the names of the train and the coaches.
“This is a very good decision. I travel frequently by trains. As I am familiar with the timings of the train, I know which train comes at what time. But people who are new and travel less often by train face problems identifying the correct train. this system will make it easy for travellers,” said Yogesh Mishra, a regular traveller by trains.
“We have already issued the tenders worth Rs 4 crore. Within 3-4 months, the process of replacing the boards will be completed. We received complaints from passengers that they were having problems reading the board. This system will eliminate the problem. It will also require less manpower. The old boards will carry messages of public interest in future,”said Ashok Garud, Divisional Railway Manager, Ahmedabad.
