A student of Government Polytechnic kissed his college mate expecting to trigger a romance with her, but ended up courting nothing but big trouble. The incident happened at the Polytechnic campus on Thursday morning before the students were to take their internal exams. Incensed at the audacity, the girl reported the matter to the colleges authorities, who took down her complaint but let both of them take the exam before deciding on action against the boy.
The women’s cell of the college meanwhile met and decided to recommend the suspension of student Ishwar Damor’s(18) to the state education department. Sources said Damor, the girl and a few other students commute to the college together from Gandhinagar everyday. They are friendly and free with each other. Over time, Damor started liking the girl. He believed she too had feelings for him. But to her, he was just a friend as much as the others.
Damor’s friends too played mischief by egging the naive boy on. His three friends challenged him to kiss the girl on campus, saying that way he could ‘win her over’. The boy got carried away, and went ahead and did that. Finding the girl and her friend sitting alone in the parking lot, he walked up, held her and kissed her. The girl repulsed him, screamed and ran towards the college. She complained to the principal of his indecent act.
Damor and his friends panicked and fled the scene. Later, when the exam bell rang, college authorities allowed them in to write the paper, but summoned Damor’s and the girl’s parents. On its part, the college’s women’s cell investigated the matter and decided to recommend Damor’s suspension.
Polytechnic college principal H S Patel said, “We called the girl’s and the boy’s parents to let them know of the incident. Our women’s cell also held an urgent meeting and sent its report to the department of technical education.” The girl’s mother was furious and insisted on lodging a police complaint. Damor was in fact handed over to the police. But he was not arrested nor was a complaint filed against him.
Sources suspected the two families arrived at a ‘compromise’ and decide to bury the issue. AM talked to technical education department joint director K M Shah, who said, “I haven’t received the report from Government Polytechnic yet. I may receive it on Tuesday (April 13), after which action will be decided in the matter.”
