Every dog has its day, goes the adage. But little Chinky, exactly a year-old puppy, sure had more than a day to rejoice. The big bash on her birthday on Sunday hinted so.Her master, Yogesh Mistry, made her first birthday memorable by hosting a gala party at his Maninagar residence spending Rs 1.5 lakh. Full of fun and frolic, around 700 invitees enjoyed themselves to the hilt at the doggie’s birthday bash.

Amid high-pitch music played by a DJ, a cake weighing 1 kg was cut to mark Chinky’s birthday. While kids did a little jig with peppy numbers encircling the puppy, goodies were showered on them from balloons adoring the ceiling of the venue. Mouth-watering dinner spread was like icing on the cake.Chinky was a bit baffled by the celebrations around. Pouring gifts, including a pearl chain sent by Rajeev Patel, a buddy of Mistry settled in Singapore, puzzled her further.

It took her a while to mingle with the guests. But when she did, it was fun for all. Wagging her tail, she amused the gathering with somersaults and handshakes. Mistry’s association with Chinky dates back to March 1, 2007. A monthly visitor of Shirdi, this devotee of Sai Baba saw her birth near the shrine that day. He instantly thought of “adopting” her. But as Mistry did not want to separate the newborn puppy from her “mom” immediately, he put a thread around her neck for identification and stayed put at Shirdi for 21 days.

“In a bid to reunite Chinky with her biological mother, I brought the bitch to my home from Shirdi before the bash. I also took Chinky to Shirdi eight times in the past one year so that she could meet her mother,” said Mistry.
