Nisarg (circled) called up his family from a phone booth on platform No 4 of the Kalupur railway stationWednesday was a day the Purohit family will never be able to forget. Around 11.00 in the morning, when Shaileshkumar Purohit and his wife Chetna were at home, they received a call from their 16-year-old son that he was about to be abducted.
Their son Nisarg, a class XI Science student of Mirzapur St Xaviers, had just left home on his bicycle to buy a book from Dilli Darwaza.Nisarg told his mother that he was at Kalupur railway station and was about to be abducted by some people and then hung up.The distraught parents, residents of Master Colony in Shahpur, went to Madhupura police station along with their neighbours to register a complaint.
The police then informed Railway Protection Force personnel who launched a search at the station.Shailesh Kumar, who runs an auto parts shop, then left for the railway station along with his wife. The couple described the appearance and the attire of their son to the RPF who began questioning all the PCO owners at Kalupur station.

But the owner said that the boy had come alone to make the call and wasn’t accompanied by anyone when he left after making the call. This raised doubts in the police’s minds whether the boy was really abducted, but they continued combing the railway station. They spotted Nisarg on platform number 4 itself. On being questioned by police, Nisarg took them to the N S Mill compound behind the railway station, saying that the kidnappers had taken him there. Police investigated the spot, but found no clues to the attempted kidnapping. Nisarg was then taken to Madhupura police station, where on stern interrogation, he divulged the truth. The 16-year-old revealed that he wanted to join the army and had faked the kidnapping.
The place where Nisarg said abductors kept him “The day terrorists attacked Mumbai and killed innocent people, I decided I would join the Army and finish off such anti-social elements. But if I had told my parents about my decision, I am sure they would have refused to let me go. So I decided to lie to them that I was kidnapped and then run away to join the army.”It is not known yet whether any action will be taken against the boy for misleading the police or he would be let off with a warning. But one thing is for sure, whether they give him permission to join the Army or not, the Purohits will never forget this day.
