The general fear of economic slowdown does not seem to have any impact on the placement of the students of L D College of Engineering. Since July last year, as many as 240 students have been placed in various companies with compensation packages touching Rs 8.5 lakh per annum.
The figures are roughly the same as last year’s. Among those placed, 10 are from civil, 42 from mechanical, 22 from electrical, 33 from electronics and communication and 42 from information technology, said a source at the college.
In a significant development, for the first time two students from plastic engineering branch have landed jobs with UAE-based company on a package of Rs 6.48 lakh per annum each. Principal M N Patel said, “Two students, Baraiya Vikram and Roopesh Rai were selected by UAE-based JFB RAK LLC. It is a very encouraging development for us.”
Eight students took the examination of JFB RAK. This was followed by avideo conferencing following which two were selected, said Training and Placement Officer Kunal Bhoyania. JFB RAK is one of the leading manufacturers/ exporters of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resins and BOPET films which are mainly used in production of bottles and packaging, lamination, screen films, etc.
Baraiya said, “I am happy to enter this field. I would get to know something new, which would add to my knowledge and skills. That is why I have decided to go to UAE. Incidentally, this company has branches in Gujarat as well and in other parts of India.” Rai, too, was elated. “It feels really good to land this job. It will certainly add value to my skills and help me grow professionally.”
During the placement, IMB has selected six girls. They were shortlisted during a special drive by IBM to select girls. Their packages are around Rs 4.8 lakh and they belong to computer, electronics and communication, information technology and biomedical fields.
