Reservation at Gandhigram railway station is likely to be a smooth affair with the newly installed closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras keeping an eye on erring employees, touts and any wrongdoings at the station. The images captured by the CCTV cameras can be accessed in any part of the country.
With the station linked to the high tech rail net facility, the images can be shared with any other railway station which has such a facility. Any railway officer in any part of the country with rail net facility can access the CCTV footage of Gandhigram using his/her login and password.
Even a month-old footage can be accessed. This innovation was first tried in Moradabad (UP) long ago. After its success there, it is being replicated in other stations. Gandhigram is the first place in state where it has been implemented. Gandhigram though in Ahmedabad technically belongs to Bhavnagar division.
It is also the seat of CRS (Chief Reservation Supervisor) and an estimated 2,000-2,200 reserved ticket passengers travel through this station daily. This is being viewed as a big support for railway administration as railway officers from Bhavnagar division (centre) would be able to act upon complaints based on CCTV footage of the station.
Commenting on the recent development, Jayant Rathod (CRS, Gandhigram) said, “This new technology will be beneficial. Erring employees would be on their toes. Moreover, baseless allegations can be countered with hard evidence collected through the footage.” Presently there are six CCTV cameras at the station. Three more will be added, Rathod said.
