State education department is all set to be part of the common engineering entrance test to be conducted by the Centre in 2013 for admissions to IITs across the country.
In its academic calendar for 2012-13,Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) published in detail examination and vacation schedule for schools. It states that GUJCET which is conducted for admission to engineering and medical colleges in Gujarat may be held if at all on April 30,2013.
However, following state education ministers conference in New Delhi on Tuesday,Gujarat has agreed to be part of the joint entrance exam for engineering, said Dr Hasmukh Adhia, principal secretary (education department).
We had asked the Centre to allow our students to take the engineering exam in Gujarati and it has agreed to the demand. We are now ready to join All-India entrance exams for engineering, said Adhia.
Addressing State Education Ministers Conference in New Delhi on Tuesday,Gujarat Education Minister Ramanlal Vora said he also supports the decision of Ministry of Human Resources to count the marks of Higher Secondary for admission. This,we believe will remove regional imbalance and the urban bias in the selection procedure for IITs.The state governments would eventually decide the weightage for higher secondary marks in the selection procedure for the state institution. However,it will not be less than 40 per cent in any case, said Vora.
