Gujarat University Vice-Chancellor Parimal Trivedi is his own favourite. The apparent self-obsessed outoutgoing vice-chancellor,say GU insiders, has left no stone unturned to project himself as public figure. The latest in the line of publicity is a documentary film on his achievements.

PARIMAL TRIVEDI: I, ME, MYSELF
The short film on Trivedis reportedly eminent services during his sixyear tenure as university head will feature his interview. The film produced at a cost of Rs 4 lakh will also have the interviews of GU Pro V-C Mukul Shah and Governor Kamla devi in brief. The focus will be only on Trivedi.Earlier,Educational Multi Media Research Centre had produced a short film on the university. But a documentary entirely dedicated to a vice-chancellor is unheard of.The varsity has been sidelined to give Trivedi a prominence, the source said. The vice-chancellor,said the source,is likely to release the flick next week at a function.
Trivedi has used university funds to produce the documentary. The aid was meant for students to avail them of more educational facilities, the source said.
Check the university diaries published during his tenure are full of his photographs. He is a publicity monger.Getting his pictures published is an open secret all know. But for last one-and-half months, his urge to hog the limelight has crossed all limits. He has now hired a private film producing firm to make a sort film on his achievement, said a source in the varsity.

A GALA FAREWELL
The V-C is also planning a gala programme before his term comes to an end.The event will be organised by others but on his instance. It is students money which is being wasted to slake Trivedis thirst for publicity, he said.In fact the next edition of GUs in-house newsletter Vidyavrutt, will also be all about Trivedi. The varsity has sent letters to principals of affiliated colleges and senate members to write a piece on Dr Trivedi and his tenure as V-C.Their input have been compiled in the newsletter, said the source.

STATES STINKER
Meanwhile,Mirror has learnt that high officials of the state government has asked the V-C to refrain from splurging on unnecessary programme. He has been asked to now stop taking any policy decisions and making any announcement as his term is near-end.His love for being in news has cost the university about Rs 12 lakh. His expenditures have caught the attention of the higherups who have asked him to stop splurging on unneeded events and programmes, the source said.

PROBE THE ISSUE
When contacted,Syndicate Member Manish Doshi said: The state government and UGC have given the aid for students welfare but it is being misused by Trivedi. He has done nothing for students during his tenure. All his announcements are on paper only.A probe should be ordered to look into his spending and the entire money should be recovered from him.
I dont remember any former VC has ever done something of this sort (producing film on himself), he said.
