Here’s good news for students seeking admission to engineering and pharmacy courses this year. They will no longer be required to stand in a queue at a bank to deposit their admission fee. From this academic year, the fees can be paid online to Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC) through credit/debit cards or netbanking.
The admission process went online around four years ago. As many as 45,000 students take admissions every year through the online procedure. Now, with even the fee payment process going online, parents would not need to go to the bank and wait for hours to deposit the fee.
Also, in remote places where banks are not accessible easily, parents are a hassled lot. But with this facility, they can ask their relative or friend to pay the fees online.
Besides, if they are paying the fee through credit card, they also get 30-45 days’ time to pay the bill. This means that even if they are not able to arrange for the money immediately, they can use the credit card to secure the child’s seat.
In case the student cancels his/her admission, the fee amount will be remitted to the parent’s bank account. Once the student confirms the admission after final reshuffling process, the ACPC will transfer the admission fee to the college of his choice.
ACPC Secretary M N Patel said, “The number of engineering seats keep increasing every year. Even the number of students applying for the seats have gone up. With the online process for fee payment, the rush outside banks can be avoided. Parents can deposit the fees within seconds using their credit, debit cards or netbanking facility.”
Sources in ACPC told Mirror, “Class 12 results will be out on May 10. We had thought of starting online registration before that. But that is not possible now. Admission rules and regulations change every year. The legal department issues a notification after changes are made. This year, however, the notification has not yet been issued. Only after it is issued can the booklets be printed and the online registrations begin.”
The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has given approval to 9,600 additional seats in the engineering colleges in Gujarat from this year. Sources said, there are chances of about 20,000 seats remaining vacant in the new academic year. Incidentally, about 4,500 seats found no takers last year despite the admission committee relaxing the norms. The ACPC had recently come up with a proposal to reserve five per cent of the total number of seats in self-financed engineering and pharmacy colleges for students from other states.
