Commissionerate of Higher Education has finally decided to start recruiting principals for about 150 grant-in-aid colleges of All Gujarat states that do not have full-time principals.
The commissionerate on Friday put up a notification on its website inviting such colleges to file declaration forms to obtain no objection certificate (NOC) for recruitment of principals.
Colleges where headmaster will retire soon can also file the declaration. The commissionerate intends to finish the recruitment process by March so that the new principals can take charge of the new academic year.
Sources in commissionerate said, “The procedure to fill up the vacant post has been going on for a long time but we weren’t able to issue NOCs due to technical reasons. Now, finally the recruitment process is on the fast track. This procedure will include arts, commerce, science, law and BEd colleges.”
The recruitment is going to be centralised. “We are going to recruit principals through a centralised process. This will not only be economically viable, but will also make it more transparent,” a source said. Those colleges that don’t wish to take part in the centralised recruitment will have to hold their recruitment procedures at GU’s main office.
The education commissionerate has also issued a points table, on the basis of which the candidates will be evaluated. Most points have been awarded for PHd, work experience, holding the post lecturer in post graduate colleges, holding a position of authority in college, having done a research paper for UGC, DST or GUJCOST.

Relax maximum age limit for teachers: Candidates
Several candidates for the post of college teachers met at the Gujarat University library to protest against Gujarat Public Service Commission’s (GPSC) advertisement inviting application from candidates below 30 years of age for the 500 vacant posts for teachers in government colleges. The maximum age limit for reservation category is 35.
According to the aspirants, the GPSC, last, invited applications for the post of teacher in 1998. So, candidates who have passed requisite exams to become a teacher in 1998 will not get an opportunity to apply this time. Some even complained that there was shortage of proper PHd guides in the state universities.
The candidates are going to submit MoU to Governor Kamla, Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Education Minister Raman Vora, Commissioner of Higher Education Jayanti Ravi and other officers, requesting relaxation in the age limit. It is mandatory for candidates to clear NET/ SLATE, and have a Phd to become a teacher.
