LD College of Engineering has launched a project to bring students, teachers, college administration and parents on one platform through a portal in the next couple of months.
Experts, along with students, began working on the Rs 10-lakh venture about two months back and expect to complete it early next year. While students and faculty will have access to ebooks, examination results, attendance records, college events, research and development works of the faculty, the website will display the students’ performance in internal tests and parents will be able to track the progress of their children on it, said Principal M N Patel.
The management information system being developed envisages a unique identity to each student, faculty and other staff members so that they can access and interact with each other on the portal. The portal will double as a one-stop resource to check the illustrious projects done by the college, the first in the state to get autonomy.
Prof Patel said that the students will also have access to lectures and other course materials as the portal will virtually act as an audio-visual classroom as the lectures of the faculty and soft texts will be stored on the server. These will be open to those who need clarification on the paper discussed in the classroom.
The website will make life easier for the students and faculty simultaneously as the latter can give assignments online and the former can submit the same on the same platform. The students will get to know the review in real time as the teachers upload their comments.
Students or faculty can also post their academic problem online which will be attended to by a team of students and teachers. The most interesting part of the project, said Prof Patel, would be the access that parents will have to these reviews. They will get to know the progress their children are making .
The developers of the portal have made provisions to display the various placement offers the college keeps getting. The website will also help students save time they have to spend on essential administrative procedures such as paying fees, filling in various forms and procuring relevant certificates. To make the system successful and accessible, the college plans to set up kiosks with touch screens at a few places on its sprawling campus, Prof Patel said.

First to get Autonomy
Lalbhai Dalpatbhai College of Engineering has bagged the unique distinction of becoming the first engineering college in the state to be granted autonomy based on the recommendation of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
The autonomy helps the college expedite recruitment of faculty members, design new curriculum, introduce judicious evaluation and assessment systems and industry-oriented courses for the benefit of the students. It also makes it entitled for grants from the state and the central governments.
