Passengers were left in a lurch when Railway Convention Committee visited Ahmedabad Railway Station at 10 30 am on Wednesday. The officials also visited Sabarmati diesel shed. For the past 10 days, the railway officials were seen on their toes, getting the station cleaned and prepped for the visit.
The eight-member committee, comprised five Lok Sabha members and three from Rajya Sabha, was here to look into the facilities, basic amenities, security, cleanliness and so on provided to passengers at the station. The committee inspected CCTV camera control room, passenger reservation centre PRS, passenger waiting rooms and even toilets.
During this process, many passengers had to go through a lot of problems. In a bid to ensure smooth operation, RPF officials disrupted passengers who were either waiting at the platform or in the waiting rooms. Many waiting on the platform were forced to shift their luggage. A few passengers sleeping on the floor in the waiting room were forced to wake up and sit properly.
One of the passengers whose kids were having lunch, was stopped from eating by the jawans. Jayesh Bhrambhatt, who was waiting for his train to Anand on platform number one with his wife and three kids, told Mirror, “My children were told to stop eating because we were coming in the way of higher official visiting the station. They didnt even let the kids finish their lunch until the officials left.” Same was the scene in AC waiting room.
Shreegopal Vyas, a Rajya Sabha member who is also a part of the committee, told Mirror, “We were here to look into the facilities being provided by the railways and not to trouble any passenger. What happened was absolutely wrong. However, we hope the railways continue to keep the station clean.”
