Shah Rukh is writing UPSC exam at L D Engineering. That is what the college staff believed on seeing his photograph on attendance sheet

Authorities at the L D Engineering College experienced dard-e-disco in their dil when they saw who was going to appear for Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam to be held on campus. The attendance sheet sent staff into a scramble as it listed superstar Shah Rukh Khan as one of the candidates. The three-day engineering service exam begins on Saturday.

The authorities were checking the attendance sheet to fix seating arrangements when they came across SRK’s photograph opposite roll number 8375. The sheet — which has the candidate’s name, photograph and signature — had WERW written in place of a name. A scrutiny of the signature revealed it was penned by ‘Sunil Tripathi’.
Requesting anonymity, a top UPSC official in Delhi revealed, “Assuming that WERW was a code, someone from the college called up to verify if Shah Rukh was really appearing for the exam. They wanted to inform the police and arrange for security for the superstar. Their request befundled us. After confirming that SRK was not appearing for the examination, we asked the college to check the identity of the candidate who may appear under this name on Saturday. The college will allow him to take the exam as we do not want anyone to suffer if an official has committed a mistake.”
Repeated efforts to contact Under Secretary C L Guleria and Deputy Secretary K K Sherawat of UPSC in Delhi failed as they were away from their desks.
On calling the UPSC control room in Delhi, an official named Arora said, “For the past two-three years, candidates have been filling exam application forms online. It could be the work of a prankster. Or else, a candidate might have committed a mistake while uploading his/her photograph.”
M N Patel, principal of L D Engineering, did not reveal much as “examination details are confidential”. He just admitted, “We faced a problem and have informed UPSC Delhi about it.”
This is not the only goof-up in the UPSC attendance sheet. “Usually, there are no mistakes in the attendance sheet. The UPSC is very careful. But this time, there are just random alphabets like AKAK or BAMH instead of names. Several candidates were named SHORT NOTE. The photograph of one candidate appears thrice — each time with different details. Signatures have been printed upside down. This might make it difficult for staff to nab dummy writers, if any,” said a school authority, refusing to be named.
Around 1,200 candidates are appearing for UPSC exams being held at L D Engineering College in Navrangpura, M G Institute of Science in Navrangpura, Diwan Ballubhai School in Kankaria and Damubhai Shukla School in Paldi.
