Gujarat Technological University (GTU) will send 180 third year students of mechanical engineering (ME) to the Oklahoma University in the US this summer to study specialised courses. The eight-week programme was announced after GTU tied-up with the American University on Tuesday.
Students will have to choose two of the three courses available — Product Design and Value Engineering, Energy Conservation and Management and Industrial Engineering and Operating Research— and attend at the Oklahoma University.
“The top ranking students will be given the opportunity to take at least two courses in June-July at the Oklahoma University from our curriculum for the next semester. The academic calendar will be planned in such a way that their term doesn’t suffer. They’ll have an examination at the end of the semester,” GTU V-C Akshai Aggarwal told Mirror. GTU has sent letters to 999 toppers in the ME discipline, asking them to apply for the course. Out of them, 180 will be selected.
Aggarwal also added, “We will bear the students’ educational expenses. But they will have to pay for the tickets and lodging. This opportunity will give them a global exposure.
“The credits they earn at Oklahoma University will be included in their final year assessment. GTU is also in talks with other universities in the US, UK and Canada for similar programmes to give its students international exposure. Soon, we’ll have same opportunity for students in Electrical, Automobile, IT faculties too,” he said
