Schools in the state will get into the quiz mode on December 28 as the Education Department launches its “Gujarat Quiz”. The winners stand to walk away with scholarships and other awards.
With the possibility of 65 lakh students from class V to class XII participating in the quiz, it could well be one of the biggest quiz events conducted in the world.
The 90-minute-long quiz will be conducted progressively from the class level within schools to state level. Class level test winners will go for school level contest. The winners will then take the district level test to get selected for the state level competition, said District Education Officer R I Patel.
A boy and a girl from each school will be invited to Shala Vikas Sankul (SVS or school development complex) for the test. From each such complex five girls and five boys will become eligible to compete at the district level. Five boys and girls each from districts will graduate to the state level competition.
The final prize is yet to be announced, but sources said all those who reach the SVS level of the contest might be offered scholarship.
The process will be completed by February next year, Patel said.
Schools have already been informed of the contest through a circular on December 20 and all schools — self-financed as well as grant-in-aid — have been asked to participate in it.
The Education Department had begun preparing for the quiz a few months ago and had got a bank of 5000 questions prepared by the faculty of Gujarat University, GLS group of institutions and Calorx University in Gujarati, Hindi, Sanskrit and English.
These question pertains to Gujarat as the department wants children to know more about their state.
The department has prepared a booklet containing 500 questions with answers and made it available with schools. The statewide quiz will have multiple choice questions samples of which have been given in the
booklet.
The department has uploaded the information on the website www.gujaratquiz.in for those who want specific information on the quiz, Patel said.
