From the new academic year, serving officers in the Indian Army will be seen at the Gujarat University campus to study languages, information technology, management, psychology and other subjects.
In a letter to Gujarat University, Brigadier Arun Bali, Directorate General of Military Training in New Delhi, has sought vacancies for serving officers who will be provided study leave for a year or two to enhance their professional standing.
Based on the needs of the organisation, the officers are being encouraged to carry out specialisation in these subjects, the letter states.
The letter addressed to Gujarat University Vice Chancellor Parimal Trivedi lists various courses the officers will pursue. The languages they will study are foreign, such as Chinese, Tibetan, Pushtu, Burmese and Sinhalese.

This is a great opportunity for Gujarat University. We want to prepare the course modules by experts and provide the officers withthe best faculty
                     — Parimal Trivedi, Vice Chancellor

Mass communication and information technology-related subjects such as security of IT systems and software designing are their other areas of interest. Management courses will include disaster, financial, inventory and infrastructure management.
The officers will also specialise in country-specific studies, especially about our neighbouring countries.
University sources said the varsity’s focus will be to incorporate security, management and service in the courses. Around 10 officers are expected to attend each course, they said.
GU VC Parimal Trivedi said, “This is a great opportunity for Gujarat University. We want to prepare the course modules by experts and provide the officers with the best faculty, so that it will be beneficial to them in the long run.”
The varsity will provide boarding and lodging to the army personnel, besides providing them security and other facilities like gym and library, the vice chancellor said.
