After successful pilot testing of onboard housekeeping services in the trains, the western railway will be introducing the services on three new trains next week — Ahmedabad-Delhi-Ahmedabad Ashram Express, Ahmedabad-Haridwar-Ahmedabad Mail and Ahmedabad-Patna-Ahmedabad Azimabad Express.
The cleaning staff dressed in navy blue uniforms will remove trash, wash toilets and other amenities periodically during the entire trip. The assistance will be a call away. Soon, brass plates displaying the phone numbers of the service will be installed in every compartment so that they can be summoned as and when required.
The services will include provision of toiletries, washing, cleaning and drying of toilets, basis, cleaning and collection of garbage from the coaches, spraying mosquito repellent and cleaning on-demand.
The staff will also be required to take feedback from the passengers. Depending on the passengers’ satisfaction, the staff will be compensated. This will make the cleaning contractors more accountable.
“We have decided to launch the service in all trains starting from Ahmedabad by December this year. We have already floated tenders for the same,” said the Divisional Railway Manager (Ahmedabad), Ashok Garud.
Passengers of these can dial 09310329556 or 09310329580 to contact the housekeeping contractor.
The onboard housekeeping system, was tested in two trains: Sayajinagar Express and Kutch Express earlier.
Rajdhani Express and Sabarmati Express have already launched the service. Three cleaners were assigned for each “reserved coach”. A ‘cleanliness supervisor’ was also deployed to ensure that coaches are cleaned at regular intervals.
