Teaching and facilities at secondary and higher secondary schools in the state will soon be brought under the government scanner.
The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board has initiated an exercise whereby high schools will undergo checks on their functioning, infrastructure and their faculty.
Gunotsav 2010 aims to bring about a qualitative change for classes 8 to 12. A 3-day exercise, beginning December, will see around 3,000 bureaucrats visit around 13,000 secondary and higher secondary schools in the state to assess the quality of these schools and give a report.
All these officials, including IAS, IPS officers and even ministers, will collect data by talking to teachers and students, visiting the classes and also checking the facilities at the schools.
In the first phase, schools will be given self-appraisal forms that will take into account the teachers, the teaching methods adopted, the amenities the school provides, the extra-curricular activities and even the food provided.
In Phase-II, class-1 and class-2 government officials will visit the high schools and assess them. The report will be compiled on the basis of both these phases and suggestions for quality improvement will be given accordingly.
A board official, who did not wished to be named, said, “To improve the quality of education and overall development in high schools, the board has begun this exercise.”
