L D Engineering students are clearly on a high. Unlike their less fortunate seniors who had to make do with not-so-impressive pay packages offered during the placement process in the backdrop of recession last year, the current students are lapping up lucrative offers. The starting salary on offer is in the range of Rs 3.5 lakh to Rs 5.5 lakh.
On Tuesday, the companies that scouted the campus to hire the crème de la crème were Tata Motors, L & T, Shapoorji Pallonji and Cybage to name a few. As many as 75 students bagged offers after placement interviews on Tuesday; the most impressive packages were offered by Tata Motors.
These firms interviewed students from mechanical, civil and electrical engineering discipline. Unlike last year, when the global meltdown gloom led to postponement of the placement process to December, this year the process began in July.
The institute’s placement officer K B Bhoyaniya said: “Infrastructure firms are leading the pack of companies scouting for talent on our campus this placement season. Nearly 75 students were given job offers. The salaries being offered are very attractive, indicative of the booming economy. This year the placements began in July as compared to last year when it started in December.”
According to sources, IT firms will recruit students at the end of the seventh semester or the beginning of the eighth semester. This, because students join the firm within a few months of having received the job offer and therefore do not attend the final semester’s lectures. IT firms will be visiting LD campus in December, sources said.
