Drawing from Gandhi to inspire students

Education Commission to organise exhibition from Sept 4 to 8, at Gujarat University Convention Hall

In a step towards value-oriented education system, Gujarat Educational Innovations Commission will hold an exhibition on the philosophy of education of visionaries like Swami Dayanand Saraswati, Swami Vivekanand, Shri Aurobindo, Rabindranath Tagore and Mahatma Gandhi.
Aimed at integrated development of students, the four-day techno-expo will showcase e-poster, e-panel and CD that will look into the educational systems propagated by these five great Indian personalities.
“We want to incorporate values and morals in present education system. This exhibition is an effort to revive the spirit of India’s spiritual knowledge and robust intellectuality. It will be held at Gujarat University Convention Hall between September 4 and 8,” A higher official in the commission, who does not wish to be identified, said.
Educationists, institutes to help prepares content
To prepare the content for the exhibition, the commission has taken the help of eminent people who have studies the philosophies of these national leaders in depth. Like Ashok Sen Gupta and Udaynarayan Singh of Shantiniketna will provide inputs on Tagore’s perspective.
Similarly, Swami Nikhileshwar and Sukhasathananda will help the commission prepare content on Swami Vivekananda’s philosophy. On the same lines, Kamlesh Choksi of Gujarat University and professors of Gujarat Vidyapeeth and Lok Bharti, Sanosara, will provide insight into the vision of Dayanand Saraswati and Mahatma Gandhi.
Exhibition CD will be sent to schools, colleges
The commission has also decided to make CD, posters and other educational aides to facilitate students adopt value and skill-oriented innovative system of education. These aides will be sent to all schools, colleges and other institutes in the state, said the official.
Gujarat Educational Innovations Commission
The state government passed the Gujarat Educational Innovations Commission Bill in 2009 to form the commission for educational reforms in current curricula. Chief Minister Narendra Modi chairs the body while education minister is vice-chairman. The objective of the panel is to conceive, experiment and implement innovations carried out in the field of education in the light of "the vision of great pioneers" of India's freedom movement.
