Talking serious note of the Kadi rape incident, the state primary teachers association has decided to form a cell for female teachers, where the teachers will be able to express their problems.
The complainant’s identity will not be revealed while investigation is on or even after it is completed. “We deeply regret the Kadi incident. Society treats teachers with respect. But due to a few, the entire community suffers,” said Chandubhai Joshi, president of Gujarat State Primary Teachers Association.
“We will form a cell to protect women who face blackmailing and sexual harassment under the pretext of job transfers. This cell will have three women and two men as its members.”
The cell will give the complainant the option of either to reveal her identity or to keep it protected. “There have been cases in which a woman approaches college/school authorities but does not get justice. But any woman from anywhere in Gujarat can come to this cell with her case. Association shall look into the matter objectively.”
Women who are threatened with job transfers or are subjected to pressure by the seniors should not worry, said Joshi and added that “women should fearlessly approach us and we will fight for them if their case is genuine.”
The association will encourage women to come forward with their complaints in order to stop such incidents.
“We are holding a meeting soon in this regard. We will work for the suspension of the three accused teachers and secretary Kirtan Patel, who is also involved in this case, shall be removed from his post,” said Narendra Gohil, General Secretary of Ahmedabad District Primary Sangh.
