Fake fractures scam accused Pravin Kotak denies being taken to Crime Branch office for questioning; cops insist he was there

On Friday afternoon, the city was abuzz with news of Pravin Kotak, prime accused in the fake fractures, dummy writers scam, being bundled into a police vehicle and taken from his posh Satyagrah Chhavni residence all the way to the Crime Branch office in Gaekwad ni Haveli, Jamalpur.
Throughout the day, Kotak, one of the city’s biggest builders, tried his best to remain incommunicado. But when AM finally caught up with him, he was at his nonchalant best and denied the whole thing.
“Who says I was taken to the Crime Branch office? It’s all rubbish. In fact, the cops had come to my residence to record my statement, which I had no problem giving. I never went to the Crime Branch office,” Kotak said.
He even tried making fun of the Friday afternoon drama, saying, “I am sitting at home to give statements. I have begun to enjoy it.”
The Crime Branch officers, however, said not only was Kotak brought to their office in Gaekwad-ni-haveli in Jamalpur, he was grilled for more than an hour.
The confirmation came from none other than Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Mayur Chavda, who told AM, “We brought Pravin Kotak to our office on Friday. We had a few queries. The officer investigating the fake fractures scam, P G Vaghela, recorded his statement.”
Vaghela also confirmed he interrogated Kotak. He said, “I recorded Kotak’s statement for over an hour.” Kotak, however, remain defiant when told about the cops confirming his visit to the Crime Branch office. He said, “I have told you my statement was recorded at home. I have nothing else to say.”
Is this the beginning of trouble for the big fish involved in fake fractures, dummy writers scam? Kotak’s son Harsh and builder Sanjay Patel’s daughter Komal faked fractures to get services of brilliant students as their exam writers, and they were helped by H N Chavda, at that time the secretary of Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board and school trustees Muktak Kapadia and Raja Pathak.
