Online admissions begin May 20. Will all go smoothly?
Learning from last year, ACPC has added a host of convenience features for students and colleges to avoid confusion, goof-ups

Online admissions for diploma and degree engineering and pharmacy courses begin on May 20. After introducing a host of convenience features and checklists to the online admission procedure, the Admission Commitee for Professional Courses (ACPC) is keeping its fingers crossed hoping that all goes well unlike last year. The year 2009, when the online procedure was introduced, saw confusion and goof-ups from students and colleges alike due to lack on information about the process. Complaints of irregularities and cancelled admissions were just a few among a host of problems faced.
Whose responsibility ?
At a committee meeting on Wednesday, college principals have been handed the task of ensuring that students are guided about the procedure. They will be accounted for any lapse or goof-up, the committee has decided.
Confirm your admission
Last year, many students, after making the applications and remitting the fees, did not submit the requisite documents at the institute and collect the admission acknowledgement slip that confirms their admission. The colleges only crossed out those seats of which acknowledgement slips had been collected.
This showed availability of seats to which students kept applying. Months into the academic year, the admission of these ‘excess’ students — numbering nearly 150 — stood cancelled. These students were then accommodated in other institutes.
Admission help centres (the numbers have doubled this year) will have bank counters besides designated branches for students to deposit the fees. The bank challan, provisional allotment letter and other required documents will have to be submitted at the help centre to obtain the admission acknowledgement slip.
The admission will not be confirmed without the slip. On the lapse of the stipulated time, the admission will stand cancelled.
This slip has to be produced at the institute to which a student has gained admission. Students can access list of help centres at www.jacpcidce.ac.in and http://www.gujacpc.nic.in/
INTERNET HELP
As students from rural areas do not have easy access to cyber cafes , the ACPC has decided to set up a cyber space centre with five computers and a printer (optional) at every institute. An institute faculty will be the centre’s nodal officer.
‘There were complaints that institutes engaged cyber cafes in their vicinity. For part of the fees as commission, owners of these internet centres would misguide rural students into opting for that particular institute,” sources said.
Cyber space centres will leave no scope for that.
SMS, HELPLINES and SEMINARS
Students making the applications will receive confirmations through SMS. No SMS would mean that the application was not registered. Helplines (079-26855444) have been set up answer students’ queries.
ACPC experts are conducting seminars across the state at taluka level to educate students about the online process.
