In a late-night operation, a joint team of the crime branch, Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Ahmedabad police on Tuesday detained four Kashmiris believed to have made suspicious visits to several parts of the city.
The four were rounded up in a dramatic manner. They were on board Gujarat Mail, which slowly started chugging out of the Kalupur station at 10 pm. Police officers, however, sprinted to catch the train. Within 15 minutes, they located the men in A1 coach. Cops pulled the chain four times to stop the train between Maninagar and Khokhra.
This Bollywood-style action shown by cops stunned passengers of Mumbai-bound Gujarat Mail. Police personnel part of this swift operation, however, controlled the situation well before getting off the train and whisking away the four men.
The detention of the men was spurred by “specific information” relating to security of the city received by Police Commissioner S K Saikia.
“The commissioner received information that four J&K residents had visited ISRO, Iskcon temple, the Kalupur station and Apna Bazaar in the past few days,” a source told Mirror. “He then asked the crime branch and SOG to find the men.”
A search was first initiated at guesthouses and hotels in Kalupur. “On Tuesday, police officers found out that the Kashmiris had put up at Ritz hotel in the area. However, when they reached the hotel, they came to know that the men had left for the Kalupur station to board Gujarat Mail.”
A joint team comprising DCP (crime) Abhay Chudasma, DySP (SOG), Tarun Barot, ACP Mayur Chawda, Inspectors K K Patel, K U Malik and J Parmar along with SOG and other police personnel then rushed to the station. When they reached there, the train was in motion. They, however, ran after the train to board it.
