Amdavadis will be involved in the India-South Africa ODI series well before Dale Steyn and Virender Sehwag cross swords at Motera on February 27. Six days earlier, 100 bouncers from apnu Amdavad will take guard at the gates of Sawai Mansingh stadium in Jaipur on February 21 to keep unwarranted people at bay from the venue of the ODI series opener.
The bouncers will be a part of the 600-strong contingent of city-based Panther Security, endowed with the responsibility of maintaining vigil on spectators at the Jaipur stadium.
Besides the 100 city-based bouncers, the firm will press into service 200 ex-armymen, 300 guards and a dog squad to avert any untoward incident during the match. It will also install CCTV cameras and metal detectors at the stadium to keep watch on every spectator.
Tired of ticketless spectators’ intrusion into the ground during international matches by greasing the palms of local guards, the Rajasthan Cricket Association invited tenders from security firms outside Jaipur to man the gates and stands of Sawai Mansingh stadium during the India-South Africa ODI.
Panther Security bagged the prestigious contract worth Rs 85 lakh surpassing stiff challenge form other bidders. Sameer Rai, the director of Panther Security, said: “Trained and well-behaved guards will man the gates and stands at the Jaipur stadium. Though people-friendly, they will not tolerate misbehaviour of spectators at the stands.
The bouncers will step in as and when required. Security experts from Ahmedabad, Chandigarh and Delhi will also be on duty.” The Rajasthan Cricket Association, sources said, would send identity cards of the guards to be deployed at the stadium within a couple of days.
The ex-armymen and jawans will leave for Jaipur on February 15. The bouncers will reach the Pink City on February 18, three days before the tie. Raring to go, the city bouncers can be seen enhancing their skills on Gujarat University campus every afternoon. Their captain, Satyen Vasvan, is conducting their training sessions.
