With an objective of inculcating traffic sense among students,Tripada School is set to introduce a chapter on traffic in syllabus from the next academic session. Like civic sense, instilling traffic sense among the future citizens is the responsibility of the school, believes management of Tripada Education Trust which owns three schools in the city. With this move, Tripada trust will become first in the country to educate students on traffic norms and regulation at school level.

Catching them young
“We intend to use the concept of ‘catch them young’ to ensure that the children follow traffic rules. Thus, we have decided to introduce a chapter on traffic from class III to VII,” said Archit Bhatt, managing director of the trust. “Like Physical Training (PT) classes, one or two lectures every week would be devoted to traffic education,” added Bhatt. The trust is also in the process of establishing a small lab for traffic education at the school. For the practical session, the schoolchildren will be taken outdoors to check if they are following road safety rules.

Teachers’ training
“We want teachers to adopt ‘learning by playing’ technique. For this, we are imparting training to them. Training will help them handle students’ queries. We have incorporated various topics like how to walk on footpath, what is zebra crossing and aspects of road safety. The topics have been classified according to the age group of students,” said Amit Khatri, member of Ahmedabad Traffic Consultative Committee.
For three months, from January to March, the panel members will inspect how teachers conduct classes.
