Your research work will no more remain a documentary evidence of brilliance, gathering dust in voluminous files. If it’s rich with information, you will get public appreciation from this year.
Gujarat Commissionerate of Higher Education has decided to publish innovative theses in its journals and newsletters from June 2010. They will be posted on its website as well.
The state commissionerate has initiated this step to encourage researchers and recognise their hard work following the University Grants Commission’s emphasis on research. It is also aimed at boosting the quality of their work.
All the college and university teachers in Gujarat, who have completed their research, will be eligible to get their theses published. After a thorough scanning, the best works will be printed and posted online.
Since scrutinising the theses of teachers associated with the 900 colleges of the state would be an uphill task, the commissionerate has decided to split the state into 36 education districts. “Several clusters will form a district. Each cluster will comprise five colleges,” said a source in the commissionerate.
The theses will be short-listed at cluster and district levels. Those making it to the state-level will be minutely scrutinised and the best works will get published. An expert committee will judge the quality of research works at each level.

Training programme
The Gujarat Commissionerate of Higher Education has decided to start a training programme for all research scholars to enhance their quality of work. Christened Knowledge Management for Faculty, the programme will impart training on research subjects. It will also focus on enhancing the communication and net surfing skills of research scholars. “Internet can help scholars work on new avenues. Besides, it will come handy in avoiding replication,” the source added.
