Added comfort for Rajdhani passengers

The Shatabdi Express between Ahmedabad and Mumbai has got ‘em. Soon, the Ahmedabad-Delhi-Ahmedabad Suvarna Jayanti Rajdhani Express will get them too. Ahmedabad Railway Divisional Manager Ashok Garud told AM that in nearly four months from now, the Rajdhani Express will be fitted with the sleek LHB (M/s Linke Hofmann Busche) coaches that are more spacious, comfortable and safer. “The proposal sent to the Railway Board is expected to be implemented in a few months,” Garud said.
The coaches currently being used in the train were fitted in 1989. “Not that they are in a run-down condition, but the Railway wants the makeover soon,” he said. Rajdhani and Shatabdi are A-grade, super-fast trains and should have all the facilities for passengers’ convenience and comfort, he said.
“The response to LHB coaches in Shatabdi (it got the coaches on August 15, this year) has been good and hence, we want the change in Rajdhani too and soon,” said Garud.
Here’s how different the german-design coaches are
♦ The German-design LHB coaches are two metres longer than conventional coaches.
♦ Italian design Fiat bodies provide superior suspension system for improved riding comfort
♦ Have a body of corrosion-resistant stainless steel
♦ Mini pantry in each coach with hot cases, bottle coolers, deep freezer and water boiler
♦ Electronically governed engines ensure trouble-free power supply
♦ Seats are ergonomically designed, having stepless adjustable back rests
♦ Large-sized luggage racks
♦ Micro-processor based air-conditioning units with temperature and humidity control
♦ Sockets for laptop and mobile charging
♦ Automatic door closing mechanism in vestibules and passenger areas
♦ The rake is provided with state-of-the art mirco processor controlled anti-skid disc brake system for better safety
♦ Centre buffer couplers with anti-climbing features make the coaches much safer
