Confusion reigned during the admission process for degree and diploma engineering and pharmacy courses this year. Scores of students had problems understanding the online admission process introduced for the first time by the admission committee for professional courses.
Looking at this year’s debacle, the state education department has decided to send representatives to city schools to explain the online admission process and tests to class 12 students and teachers.
“Students, especially their parents, were confused about how to fill up online forms, various rounds of the admission process such as reshuffling etc. This initiative will help make the 2010 admission process easier for students,” an education department source said.
“Online admission not only saves time, it is user-friendly too. Education department officials will hold a meeting in the first week of December to formulate plans to disseminate this information among students. The department also plans to come out with a booklet explaining the admission and testing process for state and national entrance tests such as CAT, GCET and JEE. In case of GCET, the best score out of two attempts will be considered,” the source added.
The online admission process was introduced to facilitate around 40,000 students who take admission in pharmacy and engineering colleges. Earlier, they had to stand in long queues and make frequent rips to colleges for admission. Now, depending on merit, the status of admission gets automatically updated in the online process.
