Gujarat University is drawing an ambitious plan to take all its processes online in a phased manner.
According to sources, beginning 2010, the external examination forms for its various courses will be available on the worldwide web.
All the students will need to do then is download the form, pay up the exam fees at a particular bank and submit the form and the fee receipt to any of GU’s chosen centres.
Gradually, degree certificate forms and eligibility forms will also be made available online. Also, till now, the University issued duplicate degree certificates on its letter pad, in case of any urgency.
But now onwards, GU will have a template in place so that printouts can be taken out immediately and issued to the student.
Rs 25-lakh digitisation
Besides this, the university is also planning to digitise key printed and archive resources to make these accessible via the internet to students and research scholars.
This will include thesis, manuscripts, journals, books and documents pertaining to the history of Gujarat.
These books will be scanned and put on the search engine so that people can avail it easily. The university is donated thousands of books, some of which are quite rare, by various people.
This can be used as reference material by students pursuing research.
GU VC Parimal Trivedi said: “Ours is one of the oldest universities in the state. We have many old books that are quite rare. We also have papers submitted by scientists.
“Many people are not aware of such materials. If it is digitised, anyone can access it. It will be of use to many students and research scholars.” The varsity has set aside a budget of Rs 25 lakh for the digitisation project.
