This is definitely not a newspaper impact. It’s probably L D Engineering College’s good luck or the bad luck of the burglar who has been targeting some or the other department on Kali Chaudas day.
Every year, for the past 12 years, thieves have managed to break the lock of at least one of its many departments and escape with things like lab equipment, pens and footrulers.
“The theft usually takes place in a laboratory or a classroom. We also find stains of saffron on the floor indicating that even black magic is performed here,” says a source adding, “There is a murmur that insiders are involved in this job, though we have not caught anyone red-handed.”
Like Gujarati New Year is considered auspicious for businessmen, Kali Chaudas is considered to bring in prosperity for thieves, robbers and conmen for the entire year if they get away with the booty on this day.
The college has been an easy target for thieves as around this time the students go home on a Diwali vacation, the college campus wears a deserted look.
Only a rector and few more staff members are present at the college. On Friday night, security was tightened here to thwart any attempt of burglary. Principal M N Patel had even come on rounds to the college late in the night.
He said: “Till Saturday evening, no case of burglary has been brought to our notice. So we would like to believe it has not taken place this year.”
On Friday, guards were asked to be alert. Even the rector and staff members were asked to keep a watch on the goings on.
The warden and the supervisor of the institute confirmed no incident of burglary has been reported on the campus.
