In a shocking incident, a lady RPF constable was allegedly molested at Ahmedabad railway station by a porter last week. The RPF and GRP are investigating into the case.
According to sources, the lady constable was on duty on platform No. 12 of the station on August 12 from 5 am. She was deployed there to scan passengers and their luggage. When she intercepted a porter to check the luggage he was carrying, the latter refused to stop. A verbal duel ensued and the porter, Rashid Khan, misbehaved with the lady constable and allegedly molested her.
Soon after the incident, the lady constable approached her duty officer and police inspector DS Patel to complain against the porter, but neither allegedly showed interest to take action against Rashid. Thereafter, she informed the RPF control room of Western Railway about the incident. An official in the control room assured her of assistance within 10 minutes, but she did not get any help even after an hour.
When the lady constable went back to Patel’s office around 9 am, she was shocked to find Rashid there. Worse, Patel told her to resolve her differences with the porter. Unable to get any help from her superiors, the lady constable informed her parents about the incident. After they reached Ahmedabad railway station, the lady constable again approached Patel to complain against the porter. But the RPF inspector allegedly misbehaved with her and her parents. Finally, the lady constable went to the GRP office with her parents and complained about the incident. She also apprised DG (RPF) of the porter’s alleged misdeed.
Divisional security commissioner said: “We have started investigation into the case. The porter has also complained against the lady constable claiming that she had misbehaved with him.”GRP PI DB Jadeja said: “We have received cross-complaints in this connection. Probe is on.”
