Even as Amdavadi youths’ hopes to pursue higher studies soared after Ahmedabad University announced to start its courses from this session, its proposed fee structure may send them into a tizzy. The students of the new varsity would be charged almost thrice the fee their counterparts would pay to pursue the same course in Gujarat University (GU).
Sample this: The annual course fee of BBA in GU is Rs 10,000. The same course will cost each student of the new varsity Rs 36,000 per year. Thus, the students of Ahmedabad University will end up paying Rs 21,000 more every year.Same is the case in BCA. The new varsity will charge each student Rs 36,000 annually for pursuing the course. At present, GU charges its each BCA student Rs 15,000 per year, Rs 21,000 less than the new university.
GU at present offers B Com course for annual fee of Rs 5,500. The new varsity will charge its each student Rs 15,000 per year. The Ahmedabad University authorities have also reserved a few seats in each course for NRI students. Those interested in taking admission in these seats would have to pay US $2,000. When Ahmedabad Mirror enquired why the course fee was high in Ahmedabad University compared to that in GU, its officials said that they had kept the state government in the loop on their proposed fee.
They reasoned the course fee was a bit high in the new varsity since it would provide quality education. They spent a lot on giving shape to their brand new and industry-friendly syllabi, they claimed. Ahmedabad University would start four courses from June 2009. They are BBA, BCA, B Com and BBA (Honours). There will be 150 seats each in BBA and BCA. The varsity authorities have decided to admit 520 students in B Com.
