In a bid to ensure high education standards, authorities of the upcoming Ahmedabad University have decided to introduce a brand new and industry-friendly syllabi for its BBA, BCA and B Com courses having three semesters a year. The five-member committee constituted by the Ahmedabad Education Society, which donated land for the new varsity, made these recommendations to ensure students excel in their career after passing out.
Though most of the reputed varsities in India have two semesters a year, Ahmedabad University will conduct three of 13 weeks each annually to give its students a scope to have in-depth knowledge in their subjects. After each semester, the students will be awarded credits. It will help them gauge their strengths and weaknesses and prepare accordingly for the next semester.
The varsity will also conduct weekly online examinations to evaluate students regularly. Besides, marks will be awarded for paper presentation and participating in seminars and quizzes. The new varsity, which will start functioning from the next month, will follow an innovative syllabi in its BCA, BBA and B Com courses. After interacting with industry people and scanning syllabi of some reputed universities, the five-member committee has come up with the brand new syllabi that will make students of Ahmedabad University fit for the industry when they pass out.
The five-member panel will keep upgrading the syllabi as and when required. The eligibility criteria for admission to the new varsity would be advertised in newspapers this month. Students will be given admission strictly on the basis of merit. The course fee in Ahmedabad University will be little higher than that in other varsities in the state. The new varsity will, however, provide scholarships to needy but meritorious students. In 2010, the varsity might collaborate with some foreign varsities. Faculty and student exchange programmes would be in vogue after that.
