One might smirk after watching the TV commercial of a popular health drink hinting kids gulping it do not miss classes, but 10 students of a school in Ahmedabad achieved the feat of 100 per cent attendance in the last academic session in reality. Baffled? Hang on. Jasmin Gulyani, one of the 10 sincere students of Delhi Public School (DPS), Bopal, maintaining a clean slate, has not missed a class for the past 11 years in a row — eight years in DPS and three years in her former institution Sri Maharaja Agrasen School.
DPS, Bopal, gave away Satatam award to Jasmin and nine other students for 100 per cent attendance at a function last Tuesday. Jasmin also bagged Utkrisht Satatam prize for not missing a single class since joining the school.A Class X student of DPS now, Jasmin was awarded for 100 per cent attendance while she was in Class IX. Fourteen-year-old Jasmin, a resident of Vastrapur, joined the DPS in Class II. This year, she bagged the Satatam award for the eighth time in a row.
Besides Jasmin, Bhavya Shah (Class VI), Harini Vasu (Standard VI), Mashumi Dave (Class VII), Kavish Modi (Standard VIII), Neil Dave (Class IX), Sawmya Parekh (Standard IX), Saket Gandhi (Class IX) and Santosh Salvaraj (of Class XI) were also awarded Satatam award.Prior to joining DPS, Jasmin was a student of Sri Maharaja Agrasen School.
She took admission there in junior KG. She did not miss a single class in that school during her three-year stint. After bagging the award last Tuesday, Jasmin said she was determined to continue with her envious attendance record till she left the school. “I am determined to maintain 100 per cent attendance till I study.
I will sincerely attend classes in the college also and will try not to miss a single class,” she said, hailing her parents for her perfect attendance record.“I am very lucky to have such a supportive mom and dad. The fact that my mom, Harsharan Kaur, is a teacher obviously helps,” she said. Her dad, Surenderjeet Singh, has a catering business. Attending school without a break for eight years did test Jasmin mentally and physically, but adversities steeled her further.
She said: “I suffered from jaundice when I was in Class III and I thought my efforts of not missing school even for a day were over. But I told the doctor to do something, give an injection or anything, so that I could attend the school. Even my parents convinced the doctor and he relented.”Make no mistake. Jasmin is not just a serious and excellent student. She is a star basketball player of her school team and has won trophies in sports and cultural activities. She excels in Gatka, a martial art invented by the Sikhs.
