A student of a self-financed institute, Manan, who borrowed Rs 20,000 from a female classmate to pay the college’s fees later accused her of harassing him to avoid repaying the amount. His ploy, however, went belly-up when the girl, Pooja (name changed), appeared before the institute’s management, and laid bare the truth.Manan and Pooja, who study in Shri Chimanbhai Patel Institute of Management & Research, became friends last year when they were in the first semester of a business management programme.
Manan began borrowing money from her earlier this year. Initially, he borrowed paltry sums, and repaid them on time to win Pooja’s trust.Later, he borrowed Rs 23,500 from Pooja, who lives in the institute’s hostel, to buy a recharge coupon for his cellphone and pay the fees of the second semester. A few months back when Pooja, a native of Saurashtra, asked Manan to repay the money, he began parrying the issue.
Pooja, however, kept badgering Manan as she needed money to renew her hostel accommodation. Manan, in the meantime, ran out of excuses for not repaying Rs 23,500. Last week, he submitted an application to the institute’s management, accusing Pooja of harassing him. Officials of the institute, located on the SG Highway, then summoned Pooja.Pooja, embarrassed by the harassment charge, appeared before the institute’s management, and broke down.
She rebutted Manan’s allegation, and accused him of not paying back her money. The management then dismissed his application.Pooja’s friends, meanwhile, confronted Manan, and berated him for ruining her reputation. Manan then approached the institute’s management, and sought permission to withdraw his application.
‘Manan has withdrawn his application’ “He (Manan) had submitted an application, accusing a girl of harassing him. However, he has withdrawn it,” the director of the management institute, Vidhut Joshi, said. “It’s a dispute over money, so we have decided to stay out of it.”When Ahmedabad Mirror contacted Manan, he said that he had not submitted any application. “My examinations are under way, so I don’t want to comment more,” he said.
