The Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GCET) this year will be conducted online. The decision was taken by Gujarat Technological University (GTU), which will conduct the common exam for admission to MBA and MCA courses in June-July.
Sources said besides the test, even the evaluation be done online, enabling the candidate to know the result the moment they finish the test. The difficulty, tough, is that students in the state are not accustomed to taking GCET online. Students, hitherto, ticked marked right options to questions on paper, and the evaluation was done by the optical marking method.
Students will have to practice taking the test anew. To help them out, Gujarat Law Society (GLS) has taken the initiative to guide and train students on the new format. NR Institute of Business Management of the GLS group has developed a software that will allow students to practice answering the questions online. The software is a replica of the GCET format. NR Institute has developed five model question papers, which the students can attempt answering on the computer.
The institute will demonstrate how the format works, and how students can tick the correct answers on-screen. The model papers will be a replica of the original GCET question paper. The institute’s faculty will screen the software for errors, after which it will allow candidates to try out the model paper online for free.
Sudhir Nanavati, managing trustee of GLS, said, “The software has been developed by Hitesh Ruparel, director of NR Institute of Business Management, and his team. Students are free to use the facilities at NR Institute and get a feel of the new online exam format.” NR Institute will soon upload the software on its website and give access to students to download and practice it at home or school too.
