No more Pepsi or Thumbs Up on Shatabdi and Rajdhani trains starting from Ahmedabad. Passengers will have to be content with fruit juice instead. But then, that will be made up for by an exciting new menu on the premium trains. This is part of changes IRCTC introduced in the menu on March 1. The new menu consists of a greater variety and better quality. As part of the plan, some insipid items will be replaced by trendier, neatly-packed ones. So, out go vegetable cutlets, bland sandwiches and soups.
Now expect shahi paneer, pongal and idli with coconut chutney and chicken with gravy while on the go. Besides, ‘maida’ bread makes way for healthy wheat bread. Shatabdi and Rajdhani passengers boarding trains from the state will be served ‘khaman-dhokla’ etc. beginning with Holi. The menu has been drawn up keeping in mind the ticket fare and class. Passengers will be welcomed with drinks consisting of fruit juice and tea/coffee with the option of sugar-free sachets for diabetics.
Shatabdi passengers arriving to the city from Mumbai will begin their day with a breakfast of bun and wheat bread with assorted fruit jam, butter chiplets, tomato ketchup, or the vada-idli etc. or stuffed paratha etc. Rajdhani passengers will also be served the same options for breakfast, depending on the ticket class.
For lunch, passengers can choose from a variety of dishes consisting of shahi paneer, palak paneer, kabuli chana, rajmah, veg kofta for curry to go with paratha, puri or chapati. Chicken with gravy is on offer for non-vegetarians. Ice-cream and whole fruit, as against sliced fruit, will serve as dessert. Dinner will also consist of the same menu with all the options.
IRCTC has also set up a toll-free complaint number - 1800111139 - for passengers unhappy with the food or service. IRCTC regional director Pravin Parmar can also be called up on 9601649300 for complaints.
